Surviving Breast Cancer – Feature in Orange Appeal Magazine

by Heather on September 10, 2010

Christi Ashby,  owner and editor of Orange Appeal magazine and I have known each other for many years.  Despite almost burning her house down during dinner one night she still thinks of me as a friend!

Christi has been instrumental in major fundraising initiatives throughout the community.  Where she gets her energy I’ll never know.  Having worked with her on Celebrity Stroll and Florida Hospital Foundation events, she knew of my  “challenge” 12 years ago with cancer.  So… of course she followed and was a support during my more recent “challenge”  this past year. Her talented daughter and writer Kate came to my office recently to ask a few questions about this past year and the impact on my life.  Take a look!

In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, this current issue of Orange Appeal magazine also features phenomenal women in the Orlando area that have fought and conquered their bouts with breast and ovarian cancer.  I commend all these amazing women who have faced this illness and have come out stronger from these experiences.

I encourage everyone to visit their doctors for regular check ups and work to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle.   For more information about breast cancer and to contribute to awareness and education you can visit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Thank you Christi for doing good for the community and raising awareness of early detection for Breast Cancer. It affects us all!  Go Pink October!!!
