Weddings Unique is so honored to work with so many great Orlando vendors. We become so close to our vendors we often refer to them as our “friendors!”

A photographer is such a crucial part of the wedding day. They capture all the moments you relive in your head and share with all of your family and friends!

Today we are featuring our friendor, Kathy Thomas! She is an amazing photographer with such a great eye at capturing all of the special moments of a wedding. We have asked her a few questions that we would love to share with you and also a few of our favorite pictures she has taken of our weddings!

-How did you get started?

While working for Louis Vuitton I traveled to Europe a lot to the workshops in Paris and Feisso Italy.  I was captivated watching generations of craftsmen create product by hand; and always dreamt what it would be like to have a career that carried out a family legacy and was so pure in form. After a few trips I started photographing my travels and following a trip in 2010 I submitted my images to LVMH corporate; in return they created a book of my work; this set my heart on fire to start journaling my life through photographic imagery. Fast forward to purchasing my first professional gear and then relocating from NYC to Orlando; I started to create a business plan to start what I thought  would be a small photography business. After capturing my first wedding at Cypress Grove on Dec. 30, 2012 I fell in love and knew wedding story-telling was exactly what I was meant to do, the chaos, emotion, beauty and history of ones wedding day is all I needed

to understand why I wanted this as a career. 3 months later, I retired my fashion retail career of 15 years and never looked back.

-What is your favorite part of the job?

My clients… I get to pick every single one of them as they get to pick me and I am filled with so much joy that after 4 years in business all my wedding couples are still married; I think this says a lot about the people who invite me to capture the most intimate day of their lives.

-Whats makes you unique?

I care about every single detail of my couples wedding day. This allows me to understand how to curate their wedding story, so they remember it the way they hope to after the wedding. I get excited with my couples over the big and the small details.  I am usually the 3rd or 4th person to see the wedding dress (I’m obsessed with wedding gowns). I also call all my grooms before the wedding to ensure I know if they have any surprises, what they care most about on the wedding day and how they are feeling.

-Favorite part of a wedding day?

Bride reveal to her father (I cry every time, even if they don’t; shhh don’t tell anyone)

The way my couples touch each other the day of the wedding is something that makes my heart smile.

-Favorite time of the year for a wedding and why?

Winter Weddings…. Nov-Jan I feel the clients bring a part of the holiday’s into their decor and theme and it makes everything about the wedding feel festive. I love minks & furs, long sleeve wedding gowns, winter floral and the color of the sky in the winter makes for beautiful imagery.

We LOVE our wedding cake at Weddings Unique! What is your favorite flavor?

Red Velvet…. I am becoming a huge fan of the Bundt Cake trend and had my first one at my last wedding, yummy.
